Rummaging through Chelsea's flea markets

One of the charms of New York City is its neighborhoods and the rush you get from discovering something new. On a recent trip, designer Marion Philpotts-Miller found herself rummaging through the Saturday and Sunday flea markets between Chelsea and midtown - literally in the shadow of the Empire State Building.

Here she found great tribal kuba cloth clothing and beaded folk art. She walked away with an unusual geometric piece in a surprising chartreuse color for a steal. “If you are into vintage clothing, this is the place to be,” says Marion of The Antiques Garage at 112 West 25th Street in Chelsea.

The designer loaded up on lots of glittering bandles and tiaras at Kathy’s Jewelry at W. 28th and 6th Ave., then moved on to Charm Creations at 137 w. 28th for a “mad hatter” fix.
