One of the charms of New York City is its neighborhoods and the rush you get from discovering something new. On a recent trip, designer Marion Philpotts-Miller found herself rummaging through the Saturday and Sunday flea markets between Chelsea and midtown - literally in the shadow of the Empire State Building.

 

Here she found great tribal kuba cloth clothing and beaded folk art. She walked away with an unusual geometric piece in a surprising chartreuse color for a steal. “If you are into vintage clothing, this is the place to be,” says Marion of The Antiques Garage at 112 West 25^th Street in Chelsea.

 

The designer loaded up on lots of glittering bandles and tiaras at Kathy’s Jewelry at W. 28^th and 6th Ave., then moved on to Charm Creations at 137 w. 28^th for a “mad hatter” fix.
