HGTV: Merging Fashion + Interior Design for Fashion Week 2011
HGTV's online editor, Kayla Kitts, presents her very own mash-up of Fashion and Interior Design in preparation for NYC's Fashion Week. Kayla found inspiration in an exotic print dress from New York and Quebec fashion house, L.A.M.B., and combined the texture, color and energy of our very own renovation of The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Resort.
Here is what Kayla had to say...
While most of us are just beginning to pull out our cardigans and fall layers from storage, the fashion world already has their eyes on next spring’s hottest design trends. That’s because it’s Fashion Week in New York. Starting today, Sept. 8, through Sept. 15, hundreds of the industry’s top designers will showcase their spring-summer 2012 collections. Unfortunately, my front-row tickets to the L.A.M.B. and Alice + Olivia runway shows were “lost in the mail,” so I can’t make it. So I’ll just have to make up for it by finding home decor that speaks to me and my sense of style. Why not blend who you are and how you dress right into your living room, bedroom and kitchen? Check out some of my fave designer clothing finds for fall and their inspiring interior counterparts.
My home is very eclectic and full of hand-me-downs, treasured pieces and vintage finds. My after-work, weekend wear is the same way. I like mixing jewelry, colors and adding layers.
Does your wardrobe compliment or clash with your home’s interior? Have you ever bought a blouse or dress and thought, that perfectly matches my couch?
Read what others had to say on Kayla's post.

Ritz-Carlton Kapalua on Maui appoints a new cultural ambassador!
Some Kaina Wonderful!
As the recently appointed cultural ambassador for The Ritz-Carlton Club and Residences, Kapalua Bay, Silla Kaina has her hands full. “I wear many hats,” she laughs. “As an ambassador, I act as an important key to unlocking the culture that taught me my values.” Born in the small town of Wailuku, Kaina is very proud of her upbringing as a pineapple “plantation child” in Honalua Ranch (now known as Kapalua Resort) where she grew up alongside her eight siblings. She reflects fondly on childhood memories of learning to swim at Fleming Beach and being surrounded by Filipino, Chinese, Hawaiian and Japanese influences. “We shared everything, and our communication was very strong,” she says. Kaina’s unique experience and emotional attachment to the land gives her a perspective that is chilling to those she meets. “I have a very deep love for this place, and I am grateful for the opportunity to give back,” says the cultural catalyst. Through a variety of activities including hula dance lessons, lei making and “talk story” sessions offered daily, Kaina aims to infuse the Aloha spirit into each of the exclusive resort’s owners and guests. “They might not understand what they are getting into,” she says of people who enroll in her programs. “But within that 45 to 60 minutes that we are together, their life is changed.” –EK
