"Step one—Get to know your client," says Arriola. Design is personal thing and the designers task is to help the client express their own creativity and preferences. Modern design, like fashion, is often about old trends coming around again with a new twist and new materials.
Arriola loves the unexpected—such as the use of precious objects and textiles with something sleek and modern. Combining old and new creates a tension that helps make an interior memorable. The client, she says, should select what they love, things that give them a positive visceral reaction.
